IRVING, Texas -- Based on all the fist-pumping and back-patting in the Cowboys' war room, they got the player they wanted despite trading down seven picks in the fourth round.
Dallas drafted Indiana (Pa.) defensive back Akwasi Owusu-Ansah with the 126th overall pick after adding an extra sixth-rounder when they moved down in a deal with Miami.
Owusu-Ansah played a cornerback/safety hybrid position at his Division II school. He has good size (6-0, 207 pounds), excellent speed (4.32 40) and penchant for playmaking. He's also an outstanding return man, taking seven to the house during his college career.
This is a player with starter potential who will probably need some time to make the massive jump in competitive levels. But he ought to be able to help on special teams while learning on the job.
