IRVING, Texas -- Gerald Sensabaugh took the final step in his progression as a playmaker on one particular zone blitz Wade Phillips likes to run.

Sensabaugh stepped in front of Patrick Crayton on a hot route during the Tuesday’s OTA workout and picked off a pass from Jon Kitna. It would have been an easy touchdown return.

Coach Wade Phillips said Sensabaugh was often a step late in that coverage early last season. Later in the season, Sensabaugh would often get to the receiver right as the ball arrived. That made the pick six in practice especially pleasing for the head coach/defensive coordinator.

“You can see the progression,” Phillips said.

A lack of turnovers is the only thing keeping the Dallas defense from being totally dominant, which makes Sensabaugh’s progression in this zone-blitz coverage even more encouraging.
