IRVING, Texas -- Stephen Bowen missed Tuesday's OTA workout to attend the funeral of his college head coach.

Former Hofstra coach Joe Gardi died at the age of 71 after suffering a stroke. Gardi had a 119-62-2 in 16 seasons at Hofstra, where he coached ex-Jets receiver Wayne Chrebet, Saints receiver Marques Colston, Bowen and Tampa Bay head coach Raheem Morris.

"RIP to my college head coach," Bowen tweeted. "Joe Gardi was a great man."

Bowen is expected to return to Valley Ranch for Wednesday's workout.
