OXNARD, Calif. -- The Cowboys love Kevin Ogletree’s potential.
He’s the fastest receiver on the roster. He’s explosive and elusive. He’s a smooth route runner.
But he isn’t consistent. Not yet. That’s what the coaches need to see to make them feel they can count on Ogletree.
Ogletree has been much better in Oxnard than he was in San Antonio. He had an especially outstanding practice Tuesday, highlighted by grabbing a deep ball over Mike Jenkins and beating an Orlando Scandrick jam for a touchdown on a fade route.
Now he needs to keep it coming.
“Like with other players we’ve had in the past, the challenge is consistency,” offensive coordinator Jason Garrett said. “Come show me again. Come show me again.
“We don’t want flash players. We don’t want guys to show up one play and then we don’t see them for a couple of plays. Kevin, like a lot of other guys on our team, is learning to do that on a more consistent basis.”
