Dez Bryant could miss rest of preseason

OXNARD, Calif. -- There was some good news on the Cowboys injury front on Monday.

Rookie wide receiver Dez Bryant, who has yet to play in a preseason game due to a right high-ankle sprain, did some running for the first time since suffering the injury in late July.

Bryant will not play this week and most likely won't return until the season opener, Sept. 12 at Washington.

"I wasn't disappointed when they told me about it," Bryant said regarding not playing in one of the last two preseason games. "I agreed with it. I just started running. I'm a rookie and I haven't been in a NFL game yet."

Tackle Alex Barron (ankle), safety Mike Hamlin (concussion), safety Pat Watkins (knee) and tight end Scott Sicko returned to practice and participated in team drills on Monday.

Coach Wade Phillips said two injured starters, safety Gerald Sensabaugh (shoulder) and guard Kyle Kosier (knee), might not be ready for the season opener.

In that case, Hamlin and giard Montrae Holland will take over.
Calvin Watkins joined in September 2009. He's covered the Cowboys since 2006 and also has covered colleges, boxing and high school sports.
