IRVING, Texas -- Jerry Jones will be featured in a “60 Minutes” profile by Scott Pelley Sunday on CBS that was shot over training camp and into the regular season, and the Cowboys owner and general manager admitted there is one person who might have fired him for the team’s poor showing: George Steinbrenner.
Pelley said Steinbrenner, who died this year and was a friend of Jones, “might have fired you by now.”
“Of course he would have,” Jones said. “There’s no doubt in my mind he would have.”
Pelley was in Jones’ suite during the loss to Jacksonville on Halloween.
“Before this year started, we were recognized as probably or certainly one of two that were favored to win the Super Bowl,” Jones told Pelley. “What you’re seeing now is agony. I am not willing to accept what we’re doing and how we’re playing.”
Jones stuck with Wade Phillips one more week and one more loss before switching to Jason Garrett.
