Sam Hurd ready for No. 3 WR role

IRVNG, Texas -- The Cowboys will be working on their third No. 3 wide receiver in as many weeks with Sam Hurd taking over for the injured Dez Bryant (ankle) and Kevin Ogletree (toe).

Hurd has only eight catches for 68 yards on the season but he has played mostly on special teams in 2010.

“I want to fill that void to make sure we don’t lose a step,” Hurd said.

Hurd is not such a bad option to have. He knows all three wide receiver spots. He runs solid routes and he is pretty good after the catch. Of his 39 career receptions, 30 have led to a first down. He has six catches of 25 yards or more.

“You want to know people are counting on you and you want to make sure you’re reliable for the rest of the team,” Hurd said. “I don’t look at that as a bad thing. I know my job. I know my role and I know the team is bigger than me. Whatever they ask me to do I’ll go do it.”
