Cowboys could be thin at WR today

IRVING, Texas -- If Roy E. Williams does not play today against Washington – and it would be a surprise if he did with the groin injury he suffered in Wednesday’s practice – then the Cowboys will roll out Miles Austin and Sam Hurd as their starting wide receivers.

Where have you gone Patrick Crayton?

I kid, but the Cowboys find themselves as thin at wide receiver then at anytime I can remember in the eight years I’ve covered this club.

If you were thinking this would be Austin’s first breakout game in awhile, you might want to adjust your thinking. Austin had 10 catches for 146 yards in the season opener against the Redskins, but Washington will likely roll its coverage Austin’s way. Hurd has eight catches this season and 38 for his career. Manny Johnson will be playing in his first game after his call up from the practice squad. Jesse Holley does not have a reception in his brief career.

Look for a lot of “12” personnel with the Cowboys using two tight ends a bunch. Jason Witten and Martellus Bennett will have to be focal points in the passing game today.
