IRVING, Texas -- It seems the NFL thought the flag Anthony Spencer received last week vs. Washington for a personal foul penalty was as dubious as many of you thought.

Spencer was not fined for his hit on Washington quarterback Rex Grossman, but cornerback Terence Newman was fined $5,000 for his unnecessary roughness penalty.

Newman was fined for spearing wide receiver Santana Moss after linebacker Brandon Williams snuffed out a reverse to the Redskins wide receiver. The Redskins scored their first touchdown two plays later.

After the 33-30 win Sunday, Spencer seemed certain he would be fined. The NFL docked Spencer $12,500 for a hit on Philadelphia’s Michael Vick on Dec. 12. Spencer was fined $5,000 for grabbing the face mask of Chicago quarterback Jay Cutler in Week 2. He was not penalized for the play during the game.
