Fangio, according to reports from the San Francisco area, has spoken to the 49ers about becoming the defensive coordinator for Jim Harbaugh, who was hired as coach last week.

Fangio worked for Harbaugh at Stanford and it seems like a natural for them to hook up again.

Update: Cowboys tight end coach John Garrett will speak with the Miami Dolphins about becoming the offensive coordinator according to multiple sources. Garrett's contract expires shortly.

San Francisco defensive coordinator Greg Manusky has a few interviews setup this week starting Tuesday with the Arizona Cardinals and after that a trip to Valley Ranch to speak with the Cowboys according to a source.

Former coach Wade Phillips tried to hire Manusky in 2007 when the two left San Diego but was unable to. Manusky eventually went to the 49ers.

The Cowboys are in the market not only for a defensive coordinator, they were interested in Miami's Todd Bowles, but a wide receivers coach as well.

On Friday, receivers coach Ray Sherman was told he would not have his contract extended beyond the 2010 season and Jason Garrett needs to fill this spot.

Stephen Jones, the Cowboys executive vice president, said there was no timetable to get the coaching staff filled, but indicated it was up to Jason Garrett.
