IRVING, Texas -- Jason Garrett said he will continue to call plays and serve as the de facto offensive coordinator at his introductory press conference.

Garrett won’t even have a coordinator in name only, which is what some teams do with offensive-minded head coaches. In New Orleans, Pete Carmichael is the offensive coordinator but Sean Payton is the play caller.

But Garrett has named his brother, John, who coaches tight ends, the passing game coordinator. It would seem to follow he will have a running game coordinator as well, which could go to offensive line coach Hudson Houck.

This is the same way Bill Parcells went about his staff in 2005 and ’06 with the Cowboys. Sean Payton (2005) and Todd Haley (2006) were the passing game coordinators, and Tony Sparano was the running game coordinator. In Parcells' first two years Maurice Carthon was listed as the offensive coordinator but did not call plays.
