INDIANAPOLIS -- While saying he feels outstanding where his team is at the quarterback position, Cowboys owner/general manager Jerry Jones wouldn't discount drafting a quarterback with the ninth pick of the first round.

Auburn quarterback Cam Newton is scheduled to speak with team officials at the national scouting combine this weekend. Newton is projected as the first quarterback to be taken in April's draft.

Stephen Jones, the Cowboys team executive, said it's the team doing it's due dilligence when it comes to speaking with college players more so about being in love with Newton.

But here's what Jerry Jones said about Newton: "I wouldn’t dismiss any player that’s going to be in that draft and wouldn’t express interest. So much happens with the circumstances that are there, not only on draft day but how we continue our process. But I do feel like we’re in really top shape. . . . I’m going to really say outstanding shape at the position. Obviously, a quarterback to draft right now is a future consideration. For that reason, I wouldn’t dismiss him or any position."

With so many other needs, safety, offensive line, pass rusher, cornerback, the Cowboys might have to bypass on Newton, if he falls to No. 9, which is doubtful.
