Broaddus Breakdown (viewed Stanford, Oregon and Arizona games): Played as the right tackle for the Trojans, but played like he had the athletic ability and feet to play on the left side. Did see him play on the left side when the Trojans went to an unbalanced line and he was on the outside. … In speaking with Bucky Brooks, who scouts for the NFL Network, he feels that Smith will need to play on the right side. The red flag on him was the weight gain of over 20 pounds since the end of his season. … I did not personally see his workout at USC, but in the tape I studied, I felt that he could play on the left side at some point because of his athletic ability and footwork. … Will play the majority of his snaps in a two-point stance. Can be in block position in an instant. Has impressive initial quickness off the snap and into his set. Explodes off the line when he kicks to the outside. … There is such an ease of movement in the way he plays. Effortless, like he is not trying hard, but he is. Is able to adjust quickly, mirror and slide to handle man. … Did see him give up a pressure against Stanford when he was late off the snap and a sack against Oregon when he had his man pressed to the outside and the quarterback moved that way and into the rush. … Has some heavy hands. When he punches his man, you can see the defender stop and have to try to restart. … Will get overextended some, but his athletic ability gets him out of trouble. … Is on the edge as a run-blocker. Not going to take his man down the middle, but will work the edges. Will fit on his man then take him where he wants to go. … Outstanding reach, cutoff. Able to work his head across his man with ease. Stays on his feet; rarely do you see him on the ground. … Is a position blocker that uses balance and control. Gets to the second level and the outside with no problems. Effective player when asked to block in space. Adjusts well for tosses on screens. … Is the top offensive tackle that I studied. If all goes to plan for him, he will be a 12-year vet in the NFL and only be 32 years old, which will be in the prime of his career. So much to work with here.
