SAN ANTONIO -- Jason Garrett has proclaimed Keith Brooking, Tashard Choice and DeMarco Murray as “day-by-day” with their injuries.

Choice strained a calf muscle on the first day of camp and could miss 2-4 weeks. Murray arrived in camp with a hamstring injury and is on the non-football injury list, and Brooking strained his hamstring while returning an interception in Friday’s practice. They could miss up to two weeks, as well.

"We'll see how they do each morning,” Garrett said. “They are some of those soft-tissue issues that everybody around the league was a little bit concerned about. We'll see how those guys do, how they respond to treatment, because they're spending a lot of time down there getting that treatment so they can get back into it."

Sean Lee replaced Brooking as the starter at inside linebacker.

With Choice and Murray missing time Lonyae Miller, who was the only tailback at the player-run practices in May, and rookie free agent Phillip Tanner have received more action. Miller was a late-season call up from the practice squad last year but did not get a carry.

Tanner, a Kimball High School grad, had a deal to play for Hartford of the UFL, but when that league suspended action he was signed by the Cowboys. He ran for 928 yards and 13 touchdowns as a senior at Middle Tennessee.

“He’s got a good feel for running,” Garrett said. “He’s done some good things the first couple of days of practice.”
