Tony Romo wishes Andre Gurode well

IRVING, Texas -- Tony Romo has started 61 games in his career for the Cowboys and Andre Gurode has been his center for 59 of them.

The only two Gurode missed came at the end of the 2007 season because of a left knee injury as the team rested him for the playoffs.

With Gurode’s release on Monday, Romo will have to begin a new streak with Phil Costa provided the second-year center will be healthy enough to play in the Sept. 11 season opener at the New York Jets. Costa is slowed by a sprained posterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.

“You know when you’ve been around this game long enough you understand certain decisions are business related,” Romo said. “I think Dre’s played at a high level for a long time and I have nothing but respect for him as a player. He’s done some great things. We’ve had some great times here. I wish him the best but it’s always tough to see.
