IRVING, Texas – Almost all of the Cowboys’ starters will sit out the preseason finale, but the coaches would prefer for cornerback Mike Jenkins to play.
The question is whether Jenkins, who has missed the entire preseason because of a stinger, will be cleared for contact by then.
“We would like to [play Jenkins], but we just have to see how he does,” Jason Garrett said. “He’s been practicing fairly well without having any contact here the last few days. He’s done a nice job practicing close to full speed and then not putting himself in position where he’s going to re-injure that thing. We’ll see how he does the next couple of days, but he’s making progress even though he’s not playing full-contact football now.”
The Cowboys are counting on Jenkins to be ready for the Sept. 11 season opener. Garrett indicated that Jenkins and Terence Newman (groin) are still the starting cornerbacks despite extended absences due to injuries.
