MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. -- Raymond Radway was perhaps three seconds away from making the Cowboys’ 53-man roster.

Radway, the undrafted rookie wide receiver from McKinney, suffered a broken left fibula and tibia and will have surgery immediately after the team returns to Dallas. He will have a rod inserted to stabilize the bones.

“He was legitimately in the mix, very much in the mix,” owner and general manager Jerry Jones said. “After he caught the big pass over the middle, I said I don’t think we can take the chance. It’s really a shame that that happened. His career from a practical standpoint is not over, but what a disappointment for him.”

Radway suffered the injury leaping for a pass in the end zone. He finished with three catches for 62 yards.

“What a good kid and only three seconds on the clock,” quarterback Stephen McGee said. “He made some outstanding plays and that’s just a tough thing to see. I cried on the inside for him. That’s just a difficult thing to accept, but he’ll be back though.”
