MIAMI -- Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has not seen starting cornerbacks Mike Jenkins and Terence Newman play in the preseason.
Newman is out with a groin injury and Jenkins has a stinger.
"It is a concern," Jones said. "It is a big concern. It bothers me."
Orlando Scandrick and Alan Ball have started in their place and with the season opener coming on Sept. 11, the playing status of Newman and Jenkins is uncertain.
But Jenkins said he should be ready for the season opener against the New York Jets.
"It's football," Jenkins said. "You're never going to be right until you think its ready. Part of it is mental. I'm mentally ready to get back out there. Physically I haven't made any contact yet. I guess when the time [comes] that's when they're waiting on."
Jenkins said he's never had a stinger before so it was unsettling for him to wait on the nerves in his neck/shoulder area to heal.
"Just going through the physicals...it's frustrating," he said. "It's one of these injuries where you don't want to mess around with anything on your neck. So that's my first time having a stinger. I was a little frustrated coming out because I never did anything like that. I had sprained ankles but never had a stinger, so I didn't know what to expect."
Newman also is on schedule to return for the season opener, and Jones said the veteran should be on the 53-man roster that has to be finalized Saturday.
