Redskins simulated Cowboys' snap count
ARLINGTON, Texas -- Phil Costa learned a valuable lesson Monday night: figure out Tony Romo’s voice.
Stephen Bowen spent five years with the Cowboys and learned something about Romo’s snap count over the years, and that led to Washington to simulate the call, leading to Costa to at least three early snaps.
The Cowboys alerted the officiating crew during the game to no avail.
“There’s no blaming the refs,” Costa said. “It’s on me.”
The final mixup cost the Cowboys 11 yards on what turned out to be their winning drive. Romo was dropped for a loss, setting up second-and-21 and a 30-yard make-it-up-in-the-dirt completion to Dez Bryant on third down.
The fix is an easy one, according to Costa, even with thousands screaming.
“Just be patient when they’re trying to simulate it,” Costa said. “Try not to hear them and try to hear Tony.”
Said Romo after the game: "We've got to get the snap thing worked out. Costa said the D-line kept calling out the snap count. We'll get that worked out. We'll tell the league and see if that's something that can be fixed because you're not supposed to be able to do that. So we'll see. But we can't have that happen. We shouldn't have been in that situation."
