IRVING, Texas -- At 6-foot-5, 208 pounds, Andre Holmes is the closest wideout the Cowboys have on the roster to simulate Detroit’s 6-foot-5, 236-pound Calvin Johnson.
“I liked wearing that jersey because I knew I was going to get the ball,” Holmes said of the No. 81 jersey he sported in Wednesday’s practice.
Johnson has 16 catches for 225 yards and six touchdowns, which lead the NFL. Last year against the Cowboys, he had six catches for 46 yards and a score in a 35-19 loss.
Holmes, who joined the Cowboys practice squad after he was cut by Minnesota, put up Johnson-like numbers at Hillsdale College with 104 receptions for 1,368 yards and 11 scores as a senior.
“I’m going to play how a play,” Holmes said. “Considering I’m a tall receiver, we kind of have the same type of games. I’m just going to do what it says on the card and try to give the defense the best look.”
