ARLINGTON, Texas -- Done with three quarters here at Cowboys Stadium and the Cowboys are trying to maintain control.
Romo's turnovers put Lions back in it: The Lions trailed 27-3 until consecutive Tony Romo interceptions, returned for touchdowns, turned the game around. Chris Houston returned the second interception 56 yards and Bobby Carpenter took one back 35 yards to cut the deficit to 10. Houston's score, with 5:34, stunned the crowd at Cowboys Stadium. Last week, Minnesota led 20-0 over Detroit before losing in overtime. On the season, Romo has five turnovers, four of them interceptions.
Bobby Carpenter picks off best friend: One of Tony Romo's best friends is linebacker Bobby Carpenter, a former Cowboys linebacker. Carpenter, a groomsman at Romo's wedding this summer, picked him off with 10:12 to play in the third quarter and returned it 35 yards for a touchdown to cut the Cowboys deficit to 27-10.
Opening drive sets the tone: The first drive of the second half for the Cowboys was set up by defensive end Sean Lissemore. Jason Hanson's kickoff wobbled toward Lissemore, who was at midfield. Hanson stumbled after the kick, and Lissemore returned it 38 yards. The Cowboys started the second half finishing a six play, 46 yard drive when Jason Witten caught a 1-yard score from Tony Romo. The opening drive had two strong plays from Laurent Robinson. He caught passes of 16 and nine yards. One of the best plays of the drive came when Kevin Ogletree went in motion as if he was going to get a screen pass, then sprinted back to the Cowboys' sideline to catch a pass. Ogletree ran 13 yards to the Lions 1.
Sensabaugh and Bennett hurt: Safety Gerald Sensabaugh was injured with 11:31 to play in the third quarter while making a tackle on Nate Burleson. Sensabaugh was hit in the back of the head when Anthony Spencer also came in to make the tackle. He was down for several moments until he needed help to walk off the field. Tight end Martellus Bennett suffered an undisclosed injury on the first possession of the second half. He later returned but after the touchdown reception to Witten, Bennett was down again and needed more help from the team trainers before leaving the field.
