IRVING -- On a rather crisp day at Valley Ranch, running back Felix Jones was returning kickoffs along with Kevin Ogletree and Akwasi Owusu-Ansah.

The Cowboys are trying to find ways to give Jones the ball now that he's lost the starting running back spot to DeMarco Murray who has rushed for 601 yards the last four weeks.

Jones hasn't returned kickoffs since 2009. He has a career average of 24.2 yards per return with one touchdown, coming in his rookie year.

As a unit, the Cowboys 21.5 yards a return. The Redskins, Sunday's opponent, leads the league in kickoff coverage, with opponents getting just 19.2 yards a return.

Also, quarterback Jon Kitna (back), fullback Tony Fiammetta (sick), cornerback Mike Jenkins (hamstring) and wide receiver Miles Austin (hamstring) missed practice.

Starting guards Montrae Holland (flu) and Kyle Kosier (foot) returned to practice after missing Wednesday's session.
Calvin Watkins joined ESPNDallas.com in September 2009. He's covered the Cowboys since 2006 and also has covered colleges, boxing and high school sports.
