Morris, who played his college ball at Texas Tech, was among New England’s final cuts in the preseason and had a workout earlier this year with Kansas City. An 11-year veteran, he has 2,955 rushing yards and 26 touchdowns on 708 carries. He had 56 yards on 20 carries last year in New England.

Morris also has familiarity with the Cowboys staff. He was a teammate of Jason Garrett’s in Miami in 2004, and Garrett was on the Dolphins’ staff in ’05-06 with Morris. Strength and conditioning coach Mike Woicik was with Morris for four years in New England.

Morris, 34, would become the backup to Felix Jones. The Cowboys also have Chauncey Washington on the practice squad and has been a part of Joe DeCamillis' special teams units in Jacksonville and with the Cowboys in 2009.
