The Cowboys’ consolation prize for crashing down the stretch and missing the playoffs will be the 14th pick in the NFL draft.

The Cowboys are one of seven teams that finished with 8-8 records, but they’ll pick second out of that pack because they had the second-weakest strength of schedule.

The Cowboys have plenty of draft needs, but cornerback tops the list. Scouts Inc. grades only three corners as first-round picks: LSU’s Morris Claiborne, Alabama’s Dre Kirkpatrick and Nebraska’s Alfonzo Dennard. Claiborne is expected to be a top-five pick.

Some players projected by Scouts Inc. to be mid-first-round picks who could fill Cowboys’ needs: Alabama S Mark Barron, Stanford OG David DeCastro, Clemson DE/OLB Andre Branch, Alabama OLB Courtney Upshaw.
