Ex-Cowboys OT sentenced in drug trafficking case
Vollers, who played with the Cowboys from 2002-04, must surrender to the Bureau of Prisons on March 20.
Last year, Vollers pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance. Vollers admitted that from January 2006 to May 2008 he participated in a scheme along with three other men to possess with intent to distribute 100 kilos of marijuana.
In January, John Patrick Newton, a co-defendants whom authorities said ran the "Newton Drug Trafficking Organization" in the Dallas area, was sentenced to 292 months in federal prison.
The U.S. attorney said Vollers actively assisted Newton in facilitating the delivery, storage, distributing to buyers, transferring money to buyers, counting proceeds from the sale and repackaging bulk of marijuana in the Dallas area.
The case was investigated by the DEA, IRS, Irving and Coppell police departments.
Vollers' NFL career ended in 2005 with the Indianapolis Colts. He started 11 games in his three seasons with the Cowboys.
