Cowboys officials will host players April 2 and April 3.

NFL teams are allowed 30 college players to visit their facilities. The Cowboys will also have another opportunity to speak with players with local ties at the annual Dallas Day on April 5 at Valley Ranch.

ESPN's Mel Kiper projects Kirkpatrick to get drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals at No. 17.

The Cowboys upgraded at cornerback by signing Brandon Carr to a five-year contract last week. Carr joins Mike Jenkins and Orlando Scandrick as the corners on the roster. It would appear Carr and Jenkins will be the starters, with Scandrick as the third down corner. A rookie could possibly come in on dime.

There are some veteran cornerbacks whom the Cowboys won't bring back, at least at this stage in free agency in Alan Ball and Frank Walker. But drafting Kirkpatrick is an upgrade at the position.

Here's Scouts Inc.'s evaluation of Kirkpatrick.

Kirkpatrick had a charge of marijuana possession dropped recently. He was asked about it at last month's scouting combine.
Calvin Watkins joined ESPNDallas.com in September 2009. He's covered the Cowboys since 2006 and also has covered colleges, boxing and high school sports.
