McShay: Danny Coale will have most impact
ESPN NFL draft expert Todd McShay evaluated the 253 draft picks from the three-day draft and came up with the most impactful players for each team. Here's the complete list. You have to be an ESPN Insider; become one, it's good.
For the Cowboys, he picked fifth-round pick wide receiver Danny Coale from Virginia Tech. McShay doesn't dismiss the potential of first rounder Morris Claiborne, yet he says of the receiver, "Coale, on the other hand, will push for playing time as the slot receiver and step in right away as a gunner on the punt team."
After Coale was picked, 152 overall, two other receivers were taken in the fifth round. Cincinnati grabbed Marvin Jones from Cal at 166 overall and Oakland selected Juron Criner from Arizona, a compensatory pick at 168.
Here's what coach Jason Garret had to say about Coale:
"He’s a guy that has all the measurables to play. He’s almost 6-feet tall, ran in the 4.3’s as a receiver. We feel like he has good traits to be an inside receiver and also the physical skills to be an outside receiver. We’re excited about him at the receiver position but also as a special teams contributor. Very good career there at Virginia Tech."
