IRVING, Texas -- Jason Garrett understands Cowboys’ history more than most having played for the team for so long. He knows what the star on the side of the helmet represents.
At the initial team meeting Thursday, Garrett told the rookies that their helmets would not have the star, just as he did in training camp last year for the rookies after the lockout ended.
“They told us we didn’t earn it and I definitely respect that,” fourth-round pick Kyle Wilber said. “I definitely respect that. We didn’t earn our stars yet. This is our first day and just because we were drafted doesn’t mean we’ve earned stars. So we’ve got to go out there and compete like everybody else, like the veterans have and get our star.”
