IRVING, Texas – The Cowboys do not know who will be their No. 3 receiver in 2012 just yet, but Tony Romo believes that guy currently resides in the locker room.

For those wanting the Cowboys to make a play for a veteran in the trade market or free agency (Plaxico Burress?), don’t hold your breath because you might be waiting for a long time.

“It’s been a healthy competition,” Romo said. “The guys have been working hard. There’s a bunch of guys giving great effort that we need right now. I think we’re definitely going to have guys step up who are going to give us some production and feel pretty confident with the guys in this room.”

Owner and general manager Jerry Jones anointed Andre Holmes, who spent most of last year on the practice squad, as the potential leader in the clubhouse to replace Laurent Robinson at the beginning of the offseason.

The Cowboys do not have a pecking order, but Kevin Ogletree had been the first to line up as the No. 3 spot behind Miles Austin and Dez Bryant. Ogletree is the only one of the backups with a catch in a regular-season game.

The other contenders are: Danny Coale, who is coming back from foot surgery, Raymond Radway, who missed his rookie year with an ankle injury, Dwayne Harris, Tim Benford, Saalim Hakim, Cole Beasley.

“They have a long ways to go, each of them does,” coach Jason Garrett said, “but you can really see progress.”
