IRVING, Texas – Mat McBriar's comeback from offseason surgery to remove a cyst below his left knee is just about complete with the two-time Pro Bowler working out for Philadelphia on Monday.

The Cowboys would like to visit with McBriar, their punter since 2004, this week before the team flies to Oxnard, Calif. The Cowboys have two punters on their roster in Chris Jones, who replaced McBriar for two games in 2011, and Delbert Alvarado.

Update (1:10 p.m.): McBriar is scheduled to work out for the Cowboys on Tuesday.

The Eagles are working out several punters.

McBriar had surgery in February and has been punting for the last six weeks in San Diego. McBriar ended up on injured reserve last year because of nerve issue that affected his foot. He averaged 43.8 yards per punt and had a 36.1-yard net average, which was his lowest since his rookie season.

McBriar, who was the Cowboys’ special teams’ captain in 2011, has a career 45.3-yard average with a 38.1-yard net average. From 2007-10 his net average went up every year, topping out at 41.7 yards in 2010, which earned him his second Pro Bowl bid.
