Until last week, the Dallas Cowboys' biggest offseason drama revolved around cornerback Mike Jenkins and whether he'd be a member of the team as he did not participate with teammates in voluntary workouts.

Jenkins is expected to report to Valley Ranch on Wednesday morning and continue his rehab from shoulder surgery.

Jenkins was the Cowboys' best corner last season despite having just one interception. He tied for the team lead with 10 pass breakups. He played through shoulder, leg and neck injuries.

Meanwhile, the Cowboys signed Brandon Carr to a five-year contract extension worth $50.1 million this offseason. They also moved up in the draft to select cornerback Morris Claiborne with the sixth overall pick and signed him to a four-year deal.

It seems the Cowboys' starting cornerbacks will be Claiborne and Carr.

Jenkins is talented, but inconsistency has given the team pause in regards to giving him a new contract, which he desires. The Cowboys also didn't trade him, something he was looking for.

So Jenkins' status with the club remains unclear.

Jerry Jones said Jenkins remains in the Cowboys' long-term plans, but with the cornerback entering the final year of his contract, you wonder if he'll be here in 2013.

Jenkins, meanwhile, hasn't spoken to the media. He stayed away from voluntary workouts, but showed up to mandatory practices, ran around the field and let the team doctors and trainers examine his shoulder.

The Cowboys wanted Jenkins to work out in Dallas instead of Florida, but Jenkins maintained his cool and didn't say anything. At worse, Jenkins becomes the No. 3 corner in 2012. If he plays well, he could get a nice contract from another team.

So when Jenkins returns to the practice fields today, the questions about his status begin anew.
