The Cowboys closed their three-day pre-training camp workouts for rookies, first-year players and selected veterans Friday and will return to the field Sunday for a conditioning test. The first full-squad practice will be Monday, and the first padded practice will be Wednesday.
The three practices allowed some players who missed the offseason because of injuries to catch up and gave rookies a larger number of snaps than they will get in California.
Coach Jason Garrett actually cut back on the final workout with only 40 players practicing. The players had 24 reps in seven-on-seven and team periods Friday after having 32 apiece Wednesday and Thursday.
The cut-down helped the four wide receivers get through the practice without any issues.
“Lot more reps, lot more experience to get out there with the other rookies and some veterans,” wide receiver Tim Benford said. “It’s giving us a head start to get ready for camp. That’s been a big issue to get us one step ahead.”
The team is scheduled to depart for California at 1 p.m. Saturday and hold a signing at the Pt. Mugu Naval Air Station before driving north to the River Ridge complex.
