OXNARD, Calif. -- The first workout of training camp -- it was a walkthrough with no helmets and pads -- is over, and first-round pick Morris Claiborne got the majority of the first-team snaps at cornerback Monday.

During offseason workouts, while Claiborne was rehabbing from wrist surgery, Orlando Scandrick worked with Brandon Carr and the first-team.

After Claiborne was cleared by the Cowboys' medical staff to practice, defensive coordinator Rob Ryan threw him in with the first unit.

"I felt good," Claiborne said. "I was kind of expecting that. I know they didn't (move up in the draft) to get me for nothing, just to have me sitting over there. I knew they were going to throw me out there and I have to do my part and handle my business."

Claiborne will go full-speed in the Monday afternoon practice, where things should heat up when he covers Miles Austin, Dez Bryant and Kevin Ogletree.

The Cowboys moved from No. 14 to No. 6 to select Claiborne in the NFL draft this spring. Scandrick said he had no problem working with the second-unit.

"We're coaching him and coaching him hard," Ryan said of Claiborne. "He's a smart kid. He works hard. Is he going to have some growing pains? I'm sure he will. But we all do. Just got to get out and do it. Joe Haden (in Cleveland), we didn't start him the first four games and we didn't have any success and we finally put the kid in and he grew quick and he took off. He had six interceptions and was probably our best defensive player by the end of the year."
