OXNARD, Calif. – Mike Jenkins hasn’t played a down as a slot corner in the NFL.
But the Cowboys seem to have no doubt that Jenkins can do it.
“He’s a guy who can play anywhere,” secondary coach Jerome Henderson said. “The guy is talented. He’s a talented corner and has been a Pro Bowler in this league. You don’t find that very often. I’m excited to get him healthy. I’m excited to have him out here and excited to throw him in the mix.”
The Cowboys still aren’t certain when Jenkins can start practicing. That could be determined during Jenkins’ visit to Dr. James Andrews on Monday.
The Cowboys are hoping that Jenkins will be able to practice some during training camp, which lasts two more weeks, and will be able to play in at least one preseason game.
As confident as they may be that Jenkins can play in the slot, he needs all the reps he can get.
