OXNARD, Calif. -- As far as Tyron Smith’s transition to left tackle goes, it won’t get any tougher than training camp.

Smith’s duel with DeMarcus Ware ranks up there with Dez Bryant-Morris Claiborne as the most intriguing camp matchups. For the most part, Ware has had the upper hand, which comes as no surprise considering Ware’s All-Pro pedigree.

However, Smith turned the tables on Ware during the first full-pads pass-rush drill of camp. The 21-year-old, who hasn’t played left tackle since high school, stopped Ware in his tracks on an attempted speed rush and rode him to the other side of the line when Ware tried a crossover move on the next rep.

“I’m really seeing maturity from Tyron Smith,” Ware said. “He’s a guy that can learn that position really fast. The strength that he brings from the right side is really unbelievable. And he’s got great feet, too. He’s really a natural.”
