Andre Holmes back on practice field

OXNARD, Calif. -- Wide receiver Andre Holmes was happy to return to the practice fields after failing his conditioning test at the beginning of training camp.

"I've been studying the playbook and that's all that matters, so when I'm out on the field I'll be ready and I won't make mistakes or anything," Holmes said after the Friday walkthrough. "Mentally I feel ready and I feel physically ready, so I'm ready to get out there."

Holmes looked like the leader in the clubhouse to become the Cowboys' No. 3 receiver following the offseason workouts. But after three days of practices, no receiver behind Miles Austin and Dez Bryant has emerged.

So despite being frustrated at failing his conditioning test, Holmes isn't too far behind.

"Everyone was disappointed. I was disappointed and everything, but now I'm putting everything behind me," he said. "And it's up to the coaching staff, but I'm thinking I have a clean slate and I have a chance to go out there and prove myself."

Kevin Ogletree, Dwayne Harris, Raymond Radway and Cole Beasley are also battling to become the No. 3 receiver. Danny Coale is also a candidate, but he's missing practice time as he recovers from a broken toe.
