Surgery for Kyle Wilber on Thursday
Wilber suffered the injury in the first half of Monday’s preseason opener at Oakland, but he was not sure how it occurred. It’s the second surgery Wilber will have since the Cowboys drafted him in the fourth round last April. He had right index finger surgery after the rookie minicamp and missed the organized team activities and June minicamp.
Wilber flew back to Dallas on Wednesday morning.
Wilber’s availability for the Sept. 5 season opener could affect how the Cowboys construct their 53-man roster and how many linebackers they keep.
“He’s a tough kid,” Garrett said. “He’s done some good things for us in training camp. He’s a lot of what we thought he was going to be when we drafted him. He’s instinctful, tough, got a good feel for playing the game and he’s around the ball a lot. We’ve got to get him back as quickly as we can and we’ll make those decisions based on our 53 (man roster) on his health and the health of other guys on the team.”
