OXNARD, Calif. -- Outside linebacker Anthony Spencer, who has missed nearly two weeks of training camp because of a hamstring injury, hopes to return next week.
"Probably another week or so," said Spencer, who is doing some walkthrough work and will miss the Cowboys' second preseason game against San Diego on Saturday night. "It's a process. I don't want to rush it. I've heard many stories of people trying to come back too early and messing it up. I'm taking my time."
With Spencer out, Victor Butler has taken the first-team snaps at outside linebacker.
Spencer isn't concerned about his health, or playing in the preseason. The objective is Sept. 5 -- the regular-season opener at the New York Giants.
"I'm not too worried about what's going on right now," Spencer said. "As long as I'm up with the playbook and staying in shape, that's my biggest worry right now, just being in shape."
