OXNARD, Calif. -- The Dallas Cowboys cut short their final practice in Oxnard Thursday when Dan Bailey made a 27-yard field goal, sending the players sprinting to the locker room and confusing fans.

Where did the players go? They boarded buses and went to the beach for a quick jump in the Pacific.

It was already a strange practice when Jason Garrett chose not to have the players in full pads for the first time in camp. Players were in shells and helmets for the roughly 80-minute workout.

The players have an 8:45 a.m. walkthrough Friday before boarding a train to San Diego.

On to the observations (albeit a smaller number):

** WR Dwayne Harris had the catch of the day, working down the seam on CB Mario Butler. QB Kyle Orton threw to Harris’ back shoulder and he was able to make a nice adjustment on the ball for the catch but lost his helmet as he went to the ground. It made up for a fumble after a bubble-screen catch earlier in the session.

** The first exchange between Tony Romo and David Arkin ended up on the ground. There were no other issues for them, but Stephen McGee and Harland Gunn combined for a poor snap.

**CB Morris Claiborne did a nice job on back-to-back plays on WR Dez Bryant. He was able to stick with Bryant on a crossing route that led to a high throw and was physical with Bryant on a deep ball from Romo that led to an incomplete pass.

** Haven’t seen too many bursts from RB Felix Jones in camp but he had one on a check-down from Romo, coming back to the line of scrimmage and getting away from S Danny McCray.

** With Jermey Parnell sitting out with neck stiffness, Jeff Adams worked as the second-team left tackle. Parnell should be good to go for the San Diego game.

** LG Nate Livings was in shells and pads for the first time since straining a hamstring early in camp. He did not take part in team drills but went through some individual work and could be back for practice next week vs. San Diego.

** WR Andre Holmes sometimes just gets out of sorts with his route running and looks awkward. After dropping a pass in on-air drills, Harris was made to run the same route for a second time.
