IRVING, Texas – Linebacker Sean Lee was on crutches because of a sprained toe suffered in the third quarter of Sunday’s win at Carolina, but the Cowboys are not ready to make a decision on his availability for this week’s game against the New York Giants.

Lee had an MRI on Monday and coach Jason Garrett said later in the afternoon the team was still awaiting the results. It is not clear whether Lee has suffered a case of turf toe or not. After the game Sunday, Lee said he would be OK, but he wore his tennis shoes to the bus with a suit.

If Lee can’t play, then Dan Connor would start next to Bruce Carter. Connor had two tackles and knocked down a pass after taking over for Lee against the Panthers.

“He looked like he was comfortable out there,” Garrett said of Connor.

If Lee can’t play, Carter would get the defensive calls from coordinator Rob Ryan.

“Bruce has really improved and grown and matured each week,” Garrett said. “You can see it in his coverage. You can see it in the run game and see it as a leader in how he communicates. He had more responsibility (after Lee was hurt), and I think he handled it well.”
