Source: Punter Chris Jones headed to IR
Jones suffered a sprained knee/partial anterior cruciate ligament on Sept. 23 vs. Tampa Bay and missed the Oct. 1 game vs. Chicago, which required the team to sign Brian Moorman. Jones returned Oct. 14 vs. Baltimore after Moorman suffered a groin injury in practice and had one punt vs. the Ravens.
Moorman was able to return last week at Carolina.
Moorman has averaged 44 yards per punt so far with a 42.3-yard net average. Four of his seven punts have been inside the opponents’ 20. Jones recorded a 45.2-yard average with a 40-yard net average and six inside-the-20 punts.
The Cowboys believe Jones has a long-term future and liked his leg strength so much that they did not make a real effort to keep veteran Mat McBriar, who is now with Philadelphia.
