ARLINGTON, Texas – At 3-4, the Cowboys are not out of the playoff race, but they are not exactly in it, either.
The easiest way to make the postseason is to win the division, but with nine games to play they trail the New York Giants by 2 1/2 games. Eight teams have a better record than the Cowboys in the conference.
But the Cowboys' next two games are at Atlanta and Philadelphia, which are not the easiest venues in the NFL.
“I think our backs are going to be against the wall the whole season,” outside linebacker DeMarcus Ware said. “Every game you’ve got to think that way. You can’t be too up or too down. You’ve got to be right in the middle. As the season progresses and you get closer to the end, it’ll be a little more tight. I feel like it’s Week 8 coming up and you’ve got to establish you’re identity by now.”
Don’t the record and this team’s track record establish an identity already?
“This can’t be what we are or we’re going to keep losing,” Ware said. “We’ve got to find a way to change it and change it fast.”
