ARLINGTON, Texas -- With Orlando Scandrick set for surgery on his broken left hand Friday, Mike Jenkins could possibly be looking at adding value to his resume.

In the second half of Thursday’s loss to Washington, Jenkins took over for Scandrick as the slot cornerback, playing inside for the first time at any level of his career.

“It’s fast inside,” Jenkins said. “But they did a good job communicating with me and getting me ready. (Secondary coach Jerome Henderson) did a great job preparing me at halftime.”

Jenkins had missed the previous two games before Thursday because of a back injury. He did not play in the season opener as he recovered from offseason shoulder surgery. He saw limited action in other games during the season, which is not the way he envisioned entering a contract year.

Before turning to Jenkins in the second half, the Cowboys used Brandon Carr inside for a handful of snaps.

“I don’t know that’s going to be the scenario,” Jenkins said of a full move inside. “They may go out and switch it up. But if it is, I’m ready. I’ve got a full week to be ready.”
