Officials breakdown: Jeff Triplette

IRVING, Texas – Jeff Triplette’s crew will work Sunday’s game against Philadelphia, which is not good for the Cowboys since they have lost their last two games under their supervision.

Both losses came in 2010 (Week 5 vs. Tennessee and Week 16 at Arizona), and the Cowboys had two unsportsmanlike conduct penalties after scoring touchdowns. The one against the Titans was particularly onerous when right tackle Marc Colombo fell to the ground after a chest bump with Jason Witten.

Witten handed the ball to Colombo for a spike after a tying touchdown and then fell to the ground, which the officials took as an excessive celebration. The Titans returned the kickoff 73 yards and had a 15-yard face mask penalty tacked on to the Dallas 5. They scored the go-ahead touchdown three plays later for a 34-27 win.

Triplette’s crew worked the Atlanta-Tampa Bay game last week and was relatively calm with only 11 flags with seven accepted. Atlanta was penalized twice for 15 yards. The Buccaneers had five penalties for 24 yards.
