IRVING, Texas – At his welcoming press conference new Chicago coach Marc Trestman said Bears defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli will not return in 2013.
Marinelli’s next destination could quite possibly be the Cowboys and soon.
The move would reunite Marinelli with defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin. They paired together for 10 years in Tampa Bay before Marinelli took over as head coach in Detroit in 2006.
Kiffin has met with the Cowboys’ defensive assistant coaches since being named coordinator last week. The team has told the assistants they are free to look for other jobs, but there is a chance they could be retained by Kiffin. Sources have indicated Kiffin came away impressed with secondary coach Jerome Henderson and linebacker coach Matt Eberflus but final decisions have not been made.
Marinelli would replace Brian Baker, who joined the Cowboys in 2011.
