Jones, elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1980, died Tuesday at 74. Ware met Jones several years ago at an NFL honors event.
"He was just talking about tenacity and (Jones) liked how I played," Ware said. "It felt really good coming from a guy like him."
Ware said former defensive coordinator Rob Ryan showed the defensive players game footage of Jones.
"We did some of the stuff (Jones did)," Ware said. "I don't know where Rob got it from, (but) it was about 15 to 20 things that was just showing some stuff, really old stuff. It was showing some guys doing the same moves that (we) was doing. I feel like that's where the pass rush started at. You got to give him his credit."
IRVING, Texas -- Dallas Cowboys defensive end DeMarcus Ware said Thursday that Deacon Jones was one of the great pass rushers in the history of the NFL.
