Nate Livings glad to be back

OXNARD, Calif. -- Left guard Nate Livings made his training camp debut on Friday after missing the first four practices because of a cut on his foot that had him on the non-football injury list.

“They were just being cautious,” Livings said. “Football is football. I’ve been playing the game for a while and it hurt not being out there.”

Livings took half of the first-team snaps, splitting time with Kevin Kowalski. It was his first on-field work since the organized team activities in May and first time in pads since last year’s season finale at Washington.

“Taking advantage of the time I was off is a big deal, taking more of the mental reps and challenging myself more off the field mentally,” Livings said. “It makes the game a lot easier. You can focus on technical things when you get on the field.”

The Cowboys hope guards Mackenzy Bernadeau (hamstring) and Ronald Leary (calf) can return to practice next week.
