OXNARD, Calif. -- Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant is expected to miss his fourth consecutive day of practice Tuesday because of a sore hip.

Dez Bryant has been the star of Cowboys training camp and Michael Irvin weighed in on the new No. 88 with Tim MacMahon.

Team officials are downplaying the severity of the injury and a source said no MRI is necessary for Bryant's injury. The Cowboys will work on short-yardage and goal-line plays in Tuesday's practice so the need for Bryant isn't deemed necessary.

Bryant has done some light work during morning walk-through practices the past few days, but he was a spectator during the afternoon sessions.

Bryant hates missing practice, but the team is keeping him out anyway as a precaution.

"That could be a good thing for someone like Dez and Miles (Austin), who run a lot," quarterback Tony Romo said about Bryant's absence from practice. "We put a big emphasis on running and really running a lot more than most teams do at the wide receiver position. Both guys do it and push themselves every single day; it's not easy. I think it can be a good thing for them to get their legs back for a day or two, and then they can push it again. In Dez's case, I think he has some soreness. It will be a couple-of-days thing, so I think he'll be fine."
Calvin Watkins joined in September 2009. He's covered the Cowboys since 2006 and also has covered colleges, boxing and high school sports.
