The Cowboys and Lee’s agent have had some talks during the offseason, but Jones would not characterize how far down the road they are in those discussions other to say that Lee is at the top of the list of players the team wants to re-sign.
“When we look at things we need to do short and long term, he’s on that list,” Jones said. “His agreement is on that list. That would be the best way to say it. Those things have to fit. In terms of our planning and management of our cap dollars and our future, we’re planning on having him on the team. We do plan on it and we factor it in when we look at what we have to spend next year.”
Lee is set to make $630,000 this year and count $930,000 against the cap. The Cowboys are close to $10 million under the cap and have the room to sign Lee to an extension, but Jones also said the team will be tight against the cap in 2014.
