IRVING, Texas – Jason Garrett finally got Jason Witten to take a day off.
Witten joined DeMarcus Ware, Jason Hatcher and Miles Austin in taking a veteran rest day Wednesday. It’s a precautionary measure that most veterans typically take, based on the coaches’ orders, once or twice throughout training camp and the preseason.
This was a first for Witten, an eight-time Pro Bowler entering his 11th season. He’s never missed a practice unless he was hurt.
“It’s a six-year discussion,” head coach Jason Garrett said. “We finally broke through.”
Witten tried to make the best of it, but he wasn’t exactly thrilled to watch during practice. Witten got a good workout in after the practice.
“You feel good and hopefully you get your legs back under you,” Witten said. “That’ll be the last one for a while hopefully.”
